The A Nightmare On Elm Street Series refers to nine American horror films based around the character of Freddy Krueger, a supernatural murderer who stalks and kills his victims through invading their dreams. Wes Craven created the franchise by writing and directing the first film A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). The series continued with five direct sequels, a genre bending spin-off film, Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994); a crossover film with the Friday the 13th Series of films, Freddy vs. Jason (2003); and a reboot, A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010). Beyond films, the franchise has also launched a short-lived television series, multiple original books and book adaptations, and comics along with a massive amount of merchandise. The film series has grossed over $455 million combined, making it the second highest grossing horror film franchise after Friday the 13th when adjusted for inflation.
iRiffing group Ronin Fox Trax has released riffs for the first five films in the series to date, with intentions to riff all nine. They plan to combine forces with fellow iRiffers Hor-RIFF-ic Productions to riff the crossover film Freddy vs Jason, as Hor-RIFF-ic has been releasing riffs for the Friday the 13th series in similar fashion.
