Casey Kasem (1932-2014) was an American actor, voice-over artist and radio broadcaster. He was the long-time host of America's Top 40 countdown.
Some of Kasem's notable voice roles include Shaggy in many incarnations of Scooby-Doo, Robin in several animated versions of Batman, and Merry in the original animated feature film adaptation of The Return of the King.
Kasem's ethnic background was middle-eastern and he was a vocal advocate against unfair depiction of Arabic people in media. He was also a vegetarian for much of his life.
